Ruchi

Super quick…
Ellie and I went to Ruchi for lunch today and I feel like I’m going to die. Of the Indian buffets I’ve been to, theirs was easily the best offering both the largest and widest selection. Amateur that I am, I ate way too much…and just how many times do I have to remind myself rice expands anyway?
As a relative newcomer to Indian food, finding out only in about the last year how much I love it, my favorites were the vindaloo and korma. Where other Indian restaurants menus might say vindaloo is spicy, at Ruchi, if it had said so, they would have been absolutely correct. They overlooked this detail on the description, however, luring Ellie in to its delicious scent. I’ve never seen her drink so much water as it was an absolute killer stopping her dead in her tracks. I too will be paying dearly for it myself, but it was worth every sweat inducing bite. Also, the Navratan Korma was a vegetable variety with nine different vegetables in home made gravy sauce. It was something I’d not had before, and it was really nice with the lemon rice.
The only real misses for me were a fried chicken dish which tasted pretty much like Chinese green pepper chicken and vadai which is a donut shaped fried potato mixture. I found it very heavy with a really overwhelming fried taste that left me feeling greasier than before. I don’t eat a lot of fried food though, so your mileage may vary on that one.
Those two dishes aside, considering I ate about 15 things, they’re still batting great. My only word of caution is that at lunch Ruchi was absolute insanity. If you’re in a hurry, this might not be your finest choice. Without personally having the muscle to back up a strong charge to the buffet, I had to wait around a lot as they sort of crammed the buffet in leaving little room, and no real direction, as to how people should be maneuvering around.
In short, while I’m not sure we’ll be rushing back for lunch, we’re definitely looking forward to going back for dinner. I have some studying to do though, as their menu is one of those monsters.
PS…I scanned that just for you fine people. That’s service. Am I right?
