Oh! Crepes
Oct 17, 2007 farmers' markets, general food

One thing I really look forward to each time I go to Tower Grove Farmers’ Market is a visit to the Oh! Crepes booth. Offering both a sweet and savory variety each week they’re always excellent. The one I had this past weekend, however, takes the cake — or crepe as it were. It was a buckwheat crepe stuffed with mozzarella and basil pesto and then topped with tomatoes and roasted butternut squash and pumpkin. At four bucks, it’s one of the best values this side of a La Vallesana torta.
With the markets nearing their final week, I’ve tried to strike up a little conversation with a few of the vendors that I haven’t in the past, and after wondering all summer what the “crepe guy” did the rest of the week, I finally asked. Though I’m ashamed to say I promptly forgot his name, as it turns out he’s a former cook and current stay at home Dad that does the crepe gig on the weekend “to stay sane.”
Of the former employers he mentioned, the two I was familiar with were Cafe de France and The Ritz Carlton. I was glad to finally know. I always knew something was up, as they’re always terrific — tasting freshly of whatever bounty the farmers have brought to the market that week.
And would you look at that seasoning. You can see it even in the photo can’t you? Oh! Delicious
Don’t miss him if you make it down in one of the remaining weeks, and cross your fingers that he’ll be back next year trying to regain his sanity after a winter of weekends at home.
