Could You Please Pass the 94M80?
Dec 3, 2007 farming

Kip “Cullers won the 2007 Missouri Soybean Association Yield Contest by harvesting 155 bushels per acre from a 2-acre test site near Stark City” Missouri.
While I am certainly impressed by Cullers record soy crop as “that’s about four times more than the statewide average of 38 bushels,” it’s the methods used to get the yield I find a little disturbing:
“The two most critical yield factors, Cullers said, are finding the right seed type for the area – a 94M80 from seed manufacturer Pioneer, for Cullers – and the right fungicide and insecticides to protect the plant.”
From www.mda.mo.gov, did you know…
- Missouri Ranks 7th in soybean production, and 6.4 percent of U.S. soybeans are grown in Missouri.
- About half of the soybeans grown in Missouri are shipped overseas to countries like Japan and China.
- Soybeans are used in many ways. Some soybeans are ground into soybean meal to feed animals, such as cows, pigs, dogs, and cats. Soybean oil is used to fry McDonald’s French fries, and soy flour is used to make crackers, cookies and bread.
