He Said Beer, She Said Wine

hesaidbeerRecently while looking for books to read I found He Said Beer, She Said Wine: Impassioned Food Pairings to Debate and Enjoy — From Burgers to Brie and Beyond.

It jumped out at me for three reasons:

  1. I love both beer and wine
  2. source material to quote Mike and I have these wine vs beer debates all the time, and books that do this for us will probably make our cases far more eloquently than we ever could.
  3. The big one…I recognized one of the author’s names: Sam Calagione.

Sam Calagione is founder and president of what I personally consider, if not one of the best, one of the most consistent breweries in the country: Dogfish Head. He is also a bit of a wordsmith having previously written two other books; one about craft beer homebrewing called Extreme Brewing, and one in my to-read stack about the start-up of Dogfish Head, Brewing Up a Business.

I thought it was worth mentioning, and especially so as the 90min IPA took top honors in Eric Asimov’s tasting.

As Mike points out, you can get the 90min IPA just across the river, and I can personally vouch for having bought it at Corral Liquor in Granite City, IL and Bon Vivant in Columbia, IL.

wow…that is a very sexist statement! In our house it’s the other way around…Si likes wine and I like beer. Or…well, it can go the other way too. Hurry up and read that and tell me all about it! ;)

Any idea what other Dogfish Head beers they carry? I’ve been meaning to go to Corral and to try Dogfish Head’s stuff, but I’ve never been heavy on IPAs. (Maybe I just haven’t been drinking the right IPAs?)

I’ve several of the Dogfish beers, not the 120 min IPA yet though ;-)

    Pretty good stuff.

    60,90,120 Min IPA’s
They have a Brown Ale, and others…

Shameless plug: Andrew at Bon Vivant is super cool and will order whatever you’re looking for. Mike and I just ordered a case of 90min from him, and I’ve bought a few other Dogfish brews there.

However, I live closer to Corral and have bought from them: 90min, 60min, Festina Peche, Chicory Stout, Raison D’Etre, Indian Brown Ale, Midas Touch Golden Elixir, and Chateau Jiahu.
