Over on my favorite blog, Line Cook, Richie Nakano writes another great post about why people cook and how to evolve and get better.
On the New York Times blog, Diner’s Journal, original Niman Farms Ranch owner Bill Niman answers reader questions. Ferran Adrià recently did too.
You know about the New York Times Magazine Food issue, but did you read it? You should. Specifically Michael Pollan’s letter to the president-elect. He’s finally using his eloquence to offer a proposal for what needs to be done. And Michael Ruhlman summed it up for those of you short on time.
Shuna discusses “The Weeds” on eggbeater.
I hate Iron Chef America, but Sunday October 26th Chris Cosentino goes back to battle it out with Michael Symon. That’s worth Tivoing.

Bill Niman is raising boar goats, really interesting article. Goat will be making a bigger showing on menus within the next 5 years.
Michael Pollan brings up some options that make alot of sense. Let’s hope states as well as the USDA see the suggestions as viable options to pulling out of the current food system. Mr Pollan addressed land grant colleges, that have gone on to do research for the commercial commodity businesses…..for the past 7 years I’ve been on a Mizzou sustainable Ag board that has been trying and succeeding to some level, in getting sustainable ag on the university’s table.
Recently I’ve heard from a buddy who is intensively farming 1 acre and within 9 months raising 25,000# of produce…..grossing $70,000. THIS IS HUGE. THIS is the kind of information that shoots down the “only big boys raise the amount of food needed to feed the world.”
Mark Bittman is really pushing for conscience eating. It’s good to see the movement thriving.

Pollan was on Fresh Air today, talking about the open letter. I’m sure it’s available as stream or podcast.
