What will happen to AAP?
Jan 15, 2009 St. Louis, missouri, restaurants
The second of a one, two punch that began with Josh Galliano leaving An American Place for Monarch, the Renaissance Grand is up for auction. Couple that with the economy and it has to make you wonder how much longer An American Place will be able to survive.

I love that no one has commented on this post. It implies to me that the people who read this blog have decorum and taste, even when the author is not showing it. I thought speculating on the demise of a restaurant was clearly shown in the OTV case to be in bad taste.

First, I find this different. In the other example people were speculating about Andy White leaving Off the Vine before he had officially done so. Before he’d quit even.
I did not add to that discussion except in adding the following: “It’s a sticky one in that people might be talking about something that is going to happen but hasn’t happened yet. You should be careful about what you say about stuff like this because you might just screw someone out of their existing job.
What I mean is, how would you like if it got back to your boss that there were rumors of your leaving but you were holding out on pulling the trigger until the right opportunity came along or something?
I’m not saying not to gossip, I’m just saying to think about it. As always the one rule here is: It’s okay to say something sucks, just say why it sucks.”
As for why I posted this post: I, and others, are truly wondering what it means for AAP. Even with it’s being one of the most opulent looking restaurants in St. Louis, I know business is down and in this economy, with restaurants dropping left and right lately, the hotel that houses them being sold off can certainly not be a point in their favor.
However cold that might seem to you, it’s not mean, it’s simply a fact.

Funny Trotter, because I typed up a reply the day of the post, and never submitted it….
I happened to recently be thinking what was gonna happen to AAP because of Josh leaving and the hard economy, and I hadn’t even heard about the selling of the building yet. In fact, my thoughts were that it wasn’t long for the world. But for some reason I didn’t say it….although I’m not really sure why.
I for sure don’t think it’s in bad taste to speculate on anything, company or portion of the economy. Shit, there is a whole financial super market of derivatives devoted to just this very thing….
